Costumes are expensive especially for small children and adults of any size. So try making your own.
Remember old, shabby, torn, dirty looking are scary! After all how many dead corpses-zombies are wearing nice clean crisp sparkly outfits. Horror movie women are in night gowns, old ball gowns, (slips can look like a ball gown if you add some artificial flowers to straps and bosum area or even bows or shawl, old cheer leader outfits, witches can be simply an old sheet drapped with an old lace curtain or shreaded sheets or any solid color. Or old dresses that are long and full topped with either a wig or old hat of any type as long as it looks scary, with cob webs, or birds or feathers or lace etc. Even old house coats can be used, with fuzzy slippers, big old purse, curlers in hair and lots of blush (rouge) on cheeks and bright red lipstick (The mother in law look). Lots of cheap jewelry (even madigras beads), big rings, scarves, shawls (can be made out of old table cloths or twin sheets or lace or sheer curtains (torn okay) it all depends on what you are, gypsy fortune teller, witch, old lady, zombie, vampire. Pretend your five years old playing dress up in your mother or grandmothers clothes or your big teenager sister's clothes and go for what ever you can put together. Don't forget hats, scarves, wigs, glasses. Beads glued on hair bands can be crowns. Earrings and rings, bracelets, necklaces all can give you ideas when tried on. Try on hats for ideas such as models, queens, ghosts etc.

BOYS AND MEN COSTUMES
Costumes are expensive especially for small children and adults of any size. So try making your own.
Remember old, shabby, torn, dirty looking are scary! After all how many dead corpses-zombies are wearing nice clean crisp sparkly outfits. Horror movie men are in moth eaten, web covered suits which can be found either in someones back closet or good will store and fixed using store bought spider webs, baby powder for dusty and dirty look and plastic bugs glued or tied on. Old torn tee shirts or flannel shirts are also great with jeans. And of course work boots. Hats of all types will dictate the clothes for outfits. Painted or purchased beards and mustaches, wigs, also jewelry if you wish depending on costume picked, such as dracula needs rings and necklaces. Or royalty such as kings. Don't forget your hands, use make up tips for hands and nails.
MAKEUP TIPS
Use green, purple, red, pink eyeshadow for sunken eyeballs look or bruises.
Use dark brown, black for also darker sunken eyeball look.
Use bright red lipstick for fake blood on face or bright red nail polish on skin, both will wash off easily with soap and water.
Use mixture of oatmeal and water and makup foundation (for color) to make your skin appear burned or scrapped off, such as from dragging across the road.
Use lots of bright red for nails or black or white polish, of course if your a corpse you could use combination to look as if you had to scratch your way out of the grave.
Petroleum jelly on face coated with baby powder gives a whitish pasty dead face, no matter how dark your complexion.
A streak of dark eyeliner with small lines going across looks like stitches, add lipstick or nail polish or red makup and you have a bloody cut. Make it even more real by first using blue, purple, green, pink, eyeshadow for desired age of bruise then add streak of eyeliner stitches and blood.
To make cheeks look sunken in or skinny neck or forhead use darker color makeup on those areas. For really sunk in like skeleton then use black, and use in tringle shapes, look at a skeleton picture, good makeup tips on my links page.
Nails you can combine different colors on your nails, let one color dry then use other colors letting each try before continuing. Or while wet stick on glitter or cutouts or small gems such as the stick on tatoo gems.
Nails and hands for men or more dead people must have bruised looks, (look above) also nails need to be dark. And if you wish add some red nail polish for blood.
For quick fangs that also taste good use candy corn, Walmart has geen (green apple) and red (cherry) ones this year 2006
Rememeber let your immagination run wild, you can buy stick on nails, stick on tatoos, stick on almost everything.
Party food ideas
Standard party food can be used for your scary parties also. All you have to do is just modify them some, punches can be made using food colors such as red or green or even purple.
Get some POWDERLESS surgical gloves pour water food color mix into gloves and lay in freezer overnight. Peel off glove and let ice hands float in punch. If a finger breaks off so the better, let it float also.
Let ping pong balls float in punch or grapes or olives depending on drinks used for eyeballs.
Make popcorn or rice krispy balls decorate with candy or icing like eyeballs or shape like hands and decorate with fingernails out of candy corn etc.
Potatoe salad or cole slaw can have few drops of food color added for gory look. green for brain stuff and red for bloody stuff. You name it.
Dolly Madison brownies or cakes or store bought cookies or etc can be decorated with a few placed candies or marshmallows with icing glue. You can make spiders, snakes, ghosts etc.
AGain let you immagination flow free, let your kids help.
